At DeadEarth Magazine we believe in being open about how our website works. This policy explains what cookies are, how we use them on deadearthmag.com and what choices you have.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They help a website remember information about your visit, such as your language preference. Some disappear when you close your browser. Others stay for a longer period so the website can recognise you on your next visit. Websites can also store small pieces of data in your browser in other ways (for example “local storage”); we treat those the same way in this policy.
2. What we use today
- Strictly necessary. Needed for the site to work and stay secure. We do not need your consent for these.
- Functional. We remember your language choice (English, Persian or Arabic), your cookie choice, your sound on/off choice on the home page and, for ten minutes, the latest coin prices shown in the donation box. This data stays in your browser and never leaves your device unless you send us a form.
- Visitor counter. To count how many people read the magazine we use a counter on our own server. To count each device once, a random device code is kept in two places: in your browser’s local storage, the same kind of storage that holds your language choice, and in one small cookie of ours (named
de_dev, set by our own server, kept for one year). The cookie lets us recognise the same device even after its local storage was cleared. The code is not used for advertising and does not follow you to other sites (details in the Privacy Policy).
We currently do not use third-party analytics, advertising or affiliate cookies, and we do not load third-party trackers.
3. If this changes
If we add analytics, advertising or affiliate links in the future, we will update this page first, list each service by name, and ask for your consent through a cookie banner before any non-essential cookie is set. You will be able to accept, decline or change your choice at any time.
4. How long do cookies last?
Session cookies exist only while your browser is open. Persistent cookies stay on your device for a set period, usually between 30 days and 2 years, unless you delete them earlier. Our own functional entries stay until you clear your browser data. The counter cookie stays for one year.
5. How to control cookies
Most browsers let you view, manage, block or delete cookies in their settings: Google Chrome (support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647), Mozilla Firefox (support.mozilla.org/kb/cookies), Safari (support.apple.com/guide/safari) and Microsoft Edge (support.microsoft.com/microsoft-edge). Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop some features from working.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in technology, law or our own practices. The date at the top always shows when it was last changed. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
