At DeadEarth Magazine (“we”, “our”, “us”) we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it and what rights you have regarding your data.
By using our website at deadearthmag.com you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please stop using the website.
1. Who we are

2. What information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact form. Your name, email address, the topic you choose and the content of your message. We use it only to answer you.
- Comments. The name you type (it is optional, and you can use any name) and the text of your comment. We keep a code made from your connection address and browser, which cannot be turned back into either of them, only to stop floods of spam; we do not store your address and ask for no email. A person reads every comment before it appears under the article. We may delete a comment at any time, and you can ask us to delete yours by writing to us with the page and the words.
- Subscription. When you subscribe to our free membership we collect your email address, the languages you choose and, if you give it, your name. We also note the country your request comes from (we find it from your connection address and do not keep the address). We use it to send you our free weekly email with a PDF of the week’s content, and related updates.
- Donations. We do not collect personal information when you donate. Cryptocurrency transactions are public on the blockchain and are not controlled by us.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs. Like every website, our hosting server records technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device type and the pages requested. We use it to keep the site secure and working, and it is deleted on a regular schedule.
- Visitor counter. To know how many different devices read the magazine, and from which countries, each page sends one small request to our own server after it has loaded. The first time you visit, your browser saves a random device code in its local storage, and our server saves the same code in one small cookie (named de_dev, kept for one year, used only by this counter). The cookie lets us recognise the same device even after its local storage was cleared, so that one device is counted once however many pages it opens, even when several people share one internet connection. The request carries that code and the name of the site you came from; when you leave a page, a second small request reports how many seconds it was open and in use. We turn it into a second code that cannot be turned back into the first, look up your country from your connection address, and keep only the second code, the day, the country and three plain facts: where you came from as a single word (for example “Google” or “Telegram”, never the address of the page you came from), the kind of device (computer, tablet or phone), and how long you stayed (the seconds the page was open and in use, and how many pages you opened). We do not store your address or the device code itself. The cookie is not used for advertising and does not follow you to other sites. If you clear both your cookies and your browser data, the next visit counts as a new device. A browser that can save neither the code nor the cookie is counted by a code made from its connection address and browser type instead. A browser that asks not to be tracked (Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control) is not counted. The country comes from a list by DB-IP.com (IP geolocation by DB-IP).
- Donation box prices. If you choose an amount in dollars, your browser asks Binance for the current coin price (or CoinGecko, if Binance cannot be reached). Like any website you load, they can see your IP address. We send them nothing else about you.
- Your browser. We store your language choice and your cookie choice in your own browser (see our Cookies Policy). This information stays on your device.
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising or affiliate tracking.
3. How we use your information
- To reply to messages and enquiries sent through the contact form.
- To send the weekly email and PDF you signed up for. Every email contains an unsubscribe link.
- To count how many people read the magazine, and from which countries, so we know what to improve.
- To keep the website secure and to meet legal obligations where required.
4. Email service provider
Subscription emails are sent through an email service provider that acts on our behalf and only under our instructions. We ask new subscribers to confirm their address by email. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email, or by writing to us.
5. Storage and protection
We store your data on secure servers and apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect it. We never sell, rent or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes. We keep your data only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, or as the law requires.
6. Third-party links
Our articles may link to third-party websites. They have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their content or practices.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data. You can ask for access to the data we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccurate information or delete your data, and withdraw your consent at any time. If you are in the European Union or the European Economic Area, the GDPR protects these rights. Turkish law protects them under KVKK (Law No. 6698). To exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected].
8. International visitors
DeadEarth Magazine has a global audience. We are currently based in Turkey, so your information may be processed in Turkey or in the country where our hosting servers are located. We handle your data with the same standard of care wherever you are, and we aim to follow applicable international data protection standards as we grow.
9. Children
DeadEarth Magazine is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please write to us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we ever add third-party analytics, advertising or affiliate links, we will update this page first and ask for your consent before setting any non-essential cookie. When we make significant changes we will update the date at the top of this page.
